A Time to Hear, Treasure and Share Your Voice

Stay at the historic Follansbee Inn, located on Kezar Lake, and enjoy time to explore your creative side, hone your writing, initiate new writing projects, or simply immerse yourself in a quiet setting, with space to journal.

Enjoy mini-workshops, walks, talks, kayak and canoe rides, and share meals with a like minded group.

Workshop fee includes a room at the inn, simple dinners, and full breakfasts. Commuter spots available for an adjusted rate, but locals, consider a full immersion.

Kendall Perkins Swords is a writer and educator, with a Masters in Education and Writing, and a Masters in Creative and Expressive Facilitation.  She has taught all ages from ages 1-1/2 to 80 in public and private schools (elementary and middle school ages) in subjects as diverse as writing, environmental science and exploration, life at sea, colonial history and living. She has also been a museum educator, and adjunct professor (Three Rivers Community College and Colby-Sawyer College.  Kendall is a published writer in several genres, gives poetry and vignette readings, and has led nature journaling hikes and workshops on responding creatively in nature in Connecticut and New Hampshire. Kendall is an innkeeper of the Follansbee with her husband Denis Swords.

Friday

3pm  5pm: Check-in Settle into your room and explore the outdoor/indoor spaces as you wish

5pm – 6pm: Gather in the living room.  Feel free to bring along your beverage of choice or have a cup of tea/water together to say “Hello” Followed by a light dinner together in dining room. 

6pm – 7pm: Introductions

Participants/Staff – Share as you desire – “who” are you and what place does writing have in your life.

7pm: Overview of the weekend

7:30p – 8:30pm: First writing prompt 

 

Saturday

8am – 9am Dennis’ famous gourmet breakfast!!! Be prepared to be impressed!

9:30am – 10:15am:  Writing instruction/inspiration #1 Hearing Your Voice Finding inspiration to write, getting started

10am – 10:15am: Meditation 

10:15 – 12pm Writing Time (at the inn or choice of local spots)

12pm – 2pm: Lunch on your own

2pm – 2:30pm:  Sharing writing from morning as desired.

2:30pm – 3pm: Writing instruction/inspiration #2 Treasuring Your Voice Writer or Imposter?   Let’s talk about it!!

3pm – 5pm: Writing Time 

5pm – 6pm: Gather in living room for drinks of your own choice (BYOB if desire something other than tea/coffee/water)

6pm – 7pm: Simple dinner at inn.

7:30pm – 8:30pm: Sharing writings, insights, thoughts 

Sunday

8am – 9am:  Another of Denis’ famous breakfasts!!!

9:30am – 11am Writing instruction #3 
Sharing Your Voice: Finding the courage and path to send your writing out into the world.  Includes discussion of the various types of publishing – Indie/Vanity/Traditional.

11am: Check out for those not remaining for Ekphrasia/Nature Writing experience.

 

Ekphrasia/Nature Writing Extension (Optional Add-on)

12pm – 1:30pm:  Lunch on your own and free writing

1:30pm – 5pm: Experience of Ekphrasia or Nature Writing (indoor or outdoor) 

5pm – 6pm: Cocktails (BYOB)/tea/coffee

6pm – 7pm: Simple dinner at inn

7pm – 8pm: Sharing writing/thoughts
