The scenery around Follansbee Inn is always beautiful, but during the fall it becomes a lot more colorful.
It’s pretty hard to go wrong during the fall in the New Hampshire Lakes Region. Everywhere you turn near Follansbee Inn, you’ll be rewarded with dazzling displays of fiery reds and oranges, mixed with bright pops of yellow and green. From the shores of Kezar Lake, just steps from the Inn, you can enjoy these colorful displays without going far — stay close to the property, get out on the water, or head up into the surrounding mountains for the best views.
While every year is different, New Hampshire reliably sees its best fall color from mid-to-late September through mid-October. Right in our backyard, hike to the summit of Mount Kearsarge for panoramic views of the valley below, with color stretching as far as the White Mountains on a clear day. The Clark Lookout Trail near New London offers a stunning overlook of Lake Sunapee and Mount Sunapee ablaze in autumn color, and the three-mile loop trail circling Kezar Lake — right outside our door — is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to take in the season. For an easy outing with the whole family, Wadleigh State Park’s shoreline is a peaceful spot to watch the colors reflect across the water.
